Here's the minimum you should know:

  1. The zoom link will go out, to all subscribed emails, approximately a week prior to the event.

  2. You do not need a Zoom account to join our Zoom Sessions events as a participant. You can simply join the meeting without creating, or signing in to, an account.

  3. Your microphone and video will be off.

Before the Call -- What You Should Know:

  1. Zoom is free for basic use. If you are just joining, they don’t need to sign up or install anything special—just click the link.

  2. Download the app in advance.  While you can use Zoom in a browser, the app (on computer, tablet, or phone) is usually more stable and gives you full features like gallery view, screen sharing, etc. Here's the zoom download (https://zoom.us/download)

  3. Test your setup beforehand at zoom.us/test to check your audio, video, and internet connection.

During the Call -- Basics to Master:

Mute yourself when not speaking
Sound etiquette matters. Barking dogs and coughing fits travel well over Zoom.
Skeptic’s angle: “Why should I mute if I’m not disruptive?” — Because you don’t always know you’re being disruptive. Mute by default, unmute with purpose.

Use the camera unless you have a reason not to
It helps connection and trust. However, if your internet is slow or your background is distracting, turning off the camera is fine.

Familiarize yourself with basic controls

Mic: Mute/unmute
Camera: On/off
Chat: Send messages privately or to everyone
Participants: See who’s in the room
Reactions: Non-verbal cues (👍, 👏, etc.)

What if I have trouble?

One of us will try to monitor our club email address before and during our club zooms. You can email us at villageshealthwellness@gmail.com and we will read and respond ASAP.

Or text us during the zoom. It's best to try contacting Kay because Gretchen is likely cohosting actively in the zoom with our featured speaker. We're not listing our phone numbers here, because (lesson learned!).... all of the scammers on the web abuse us. We hope you understand. But please pick up our card at a club meeting or use our contact form here.

Some of our meetings will have live chat available, and some will not. But even when it is available, our presenters will not be viewing the chat. Experience shows that makes for a very distracted speaker. So please bear in mind that any real-time chat will just be interactions between audience viewers and our club organizers.
